Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War

We’ve got a job to do.
Adler
Summary:
Set in the 1980s, Call of Duty: Cold War takes place across Berlin, Vietnam, as well as Russia. The game begins with an attempted assassination conducted by your team, and flawlessly moves into your bigger objective. After discovering the resurgence of Perseus, you are tasked with the mission of preventing the corrupt and powerful Russian from acquiring a nuclear weapon. With a few flashbacks, as well as a variety of missions, you learn quite a lot about the cast of characters around you as well as your own character, Bell.
Characters:
Bell is our playable character that we get to customize most aspects about his identity other than his nickname that you are called by. Bell fought with Adler in the Vietnam war as well and is also very good with computers. Russell Adler is the leader of our team and he is a Vietnam veteran who leads the black ops team. He’s tough, gritty and good with a gun and he has a consistent catchphrase. Alex Mason is the other character that we play as for a part of the game and he is a pretty good soldier who’s good at what he does.

This game is fantastic. The next-gen console makes it look even better, but it is still incredibly smooth on the PS4. The campaign is very compelling, filled with twists and turns that no one saw coming. It took us a decent amount of time to beat, just over four and a half hours long. If you play side missions, and truly complete the game, it will take much longer than that, but you can run through the main campaign fairly quickly. The cast of characters have a nostalgic feel for anyone who has experience playing COD games, especially Black ops games. It is also really cool to be able to slightly customize your character. I believe this is one of the first times we have been able to determine anything about the main played character. While the campaign is pretty good, Call of Duty is known for the multiplayer.
We still have a lot of updates to come, including one for Warzone to come in December, but so far the multiplayer is really good. As per usual, there are certain guns that are way overpowered, as well as some that are routinely awful. The movement can feel blocky until you adjust to the pace of play, but once you adjust it feels smoother and more accurate than past years. The game modes in the multiplayer have not changed a ton, but the fireteam mode that currently available is quite enjoyable, and the four new maps believed to be coming to 6v6 will only add to the visually pleasing Call of Duty: Cold War. Zombies looks fantastic, and while I haven’t gotten too deep into it yet, the graphics are once again incredible. Nothing compares to spending way too much time, and losing way too many hours of sleep playing Zombies with buddies until the crack of dawn, and this version brings the standard of play we have loved from the franchise in past years.
I have next to nothing bad to say about this game, my only warning is this. When you first start playing any online mode for this game, you might get tossed around. It has a pretty steep learning curve, and it is going to feel blocky and uncomfortable until you get your bearings, and potentially change a few settings. Asides from that, I loved this game and it is one of the best games I have played in a while. I absolutely recommend you go pick this one up, with the countless ways to play on and off line.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War was one of the best Call of Duty games I have played so far. Everything about this game felt really smooth. The guns were solid and each were unique. The combat was intense, yet manageable. The campaign was a joy ride until the end. The possibility of alternate endings was surprising and good replay ability. The characters were enjoyable and mostly unique. Overall, it was a fun game.
The campaign for this game was really fun to play. There are so many options story wise and character wise. Story wise, there are many opportunities throughout the game that give players a choice on their actions. In this game, the choices carry weight, and depending on what the player chooses, the last mission changes depending on the play through. Without going into plot spoilers, the reason for having a customizable protagonist was also very interesting. Although every avatar created is code named “Bell”, each avatar can be customised with unique names and unique perks throughout the campaign. Another great aspect of the campaign is the story. The story was filled with many twists and turns, and the player is able to play in a variety of locations. Besides locations, this game also featured a variety of mission type. Besides the usual run and gun, there were also a good amount of stealth missions. This added another layer to the complexity of the game.
The only real downside was some of the characters. Some of the characters you meet during the campaign aren’t explored as much as some of the others. However, it was cool to see some characters that appear in other Call of Duty titles.
Besides the campaign, the game also features online multiplayer and zombie mode, which are also very fun for those who are more interested in the shooter aspect of the game. All in all, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War is one of my favourite shooter games of all time. For those who are into those types of games, this is a no-brainer to pick up and enjoy.

This is one of the best looking and action-packed games I have ever played. Now us at Prairie Grown Reviews were fortunate enough to play this on the PS5 which was awesome and meant we got to play the best version of the game. The graphics in this game are stunning, with great attention to detail and photo realistic backgrounds that just make everything location feel alive. While the graphics are arguably one of the best parts of the game my favourite part was definitely the history aspect. The attention to detail in the broadcasts, the weaponry and the overall look of the world at the time perfectly immersed me in the Cold War era of the world. The actual story of the game is quite fun too with the black ops team hunting down a terrorist within Russia named Perseus who intends on detonating bombs across Europe and our team has to track him down and stop him.
We played this game in one sitting and so by the end of the game I understood the gameplay mechanics pretty well. The gameplay is pretty consistent with most Call of Duty games I have played in the past with mostly added controls so it was not too hard and I don’t think would be hard for a first-time gamer either. The game is not only a straight up shooter with multiple stealth missions where the goal is not to shoot people as well as missions where you are in vehicles to spice up the different ways to shoot people. Of course, with this game being brand new there are going to be updates throughout the next few weeks as well as there are modes, I didn’t get to play such as zombies and much of the multiplayer but the little bit of multiplayer I did get to play was great.
The only issue I had with this game was that most of the characters were underdeveloped. I know that some have been in other Call of Duty games but at the same time in this specific game most of them are just soldiers you work with.
All in all this is a great game that is a good time and has some truly great action that I highly recommend to anyone wanting a new shooter to beat.
