Digman!: Episode 1 Review

Digman! episode 1, Pilot, is the first episode of the series, and while it was funny, the jokes felt flat. The story was all over the place, and just felt mediocre. There is potential there, but Digman! has a long ways to go before being worth watching.
Digman! is a new series from Comedy Central, and Episode 1 premiered March 22nd, 2023. The first episode can be seen for free on YouTube, or CTV if you are in Canada.
Who Stars in Episode 1 of Digman!?
Digman! features four main characters in the pilot episode. Rip Digman is our main character, and is played by Andy Samberg. The knock-off Nic Cage is a character that is going to take some time to grow on most people. Saltine is Rip’s Assistant and played by Mitra Johnson. She’s a college student who joins Rip on his journey to be an ‘Archy’. Tim Robinson stars as Swooper, Rip’s driver. The final main character in episode 1 is Zane, played by Guz Khan. Zane is a fellow Archy, and a competitor of Rip’s.

Digman! Episode 1 Review
DIgman! episode 1 is pretty decent, but decent is as high as I would go. The jokes are alright, some of them are flat, and I didn’t find it was as funny as I was expecting. I love Andy Samberg in almost anything, and I like him as Rip, but something about the character is just slightly irritating. The accent is a little bit much and not as funny as intended, but it isn’t terrible. The rest of the cast doesn’t have a ton of screen time as the episode is only 20 minutes, but I enjoyed Saltine’s character. Potentially the best thing to come out of this show so far.
The story Digman! sets up looks to be very interesting, and I wanted about 6 more episodes after the first. The episode long story paired with a larger season long story is exactly how a pilot episode should be done, and I really liked that part. The issue with episode 1’s story is it is all over the place. In twenty minutes, we jump around like a kangaroo, and the episode really struggles to find it’s path. Regardless, after episode 1, Digman! is worth watching. It isn’t great, but 20 minutes is way too short of a time period to make any concrete judgements just yet. The show has potential, but needs to make some serious strides in upcoming episodes. Episode 2 is releasing on March 29, 2023.
Digman! Episode 1: Pilot – 7.5/10
