Digman! Episode 3 Review

Episode 3 is very similar to the first two episode in tone, flow, and pacing, but the characters continue to grow on me.
The Fear of GAWD follows Digman and Saltine as they set out to find the Ten Commandments. Our characters meet a new mythological species as well as try to handle to seems of society coming undone. It makes for an interesting episode with some funny jokes.
You have to take this episode for what it is, a 20 minutes episode, 3 episodes into an adult animation show. It’s funny, even if some of the jokes are still off, and the characters are getting better. While it isn’t easy to develop characters in 20 minute intervals, Digman! is doing an okay job so far.
Episode 3 continues to focus on our main cast of characters, not introducing any major characters this week. G.A.W.D is voiced by Maya Rudolph, who does a good job in the minor role, but I don’t see her fitting back into the show’s story. It will be interesting to see where this cast goes next, as we know that Melissa Fumero returns in some capacity, and I wouldn’t put it past Samberg to surprise us with other big names later in the season.
The show continues to jump around, although we do spend a little bit of time developing the over-arching story in this episode. I like the plot this week, with the talk of AI paired with the world going to hell, it makes for an entertaining watch. I would have loved if this week’s episode was slowed down, much like previous episodes. We fly through topics and do a lot without actually doing much in 20 minutes. The episode feels like it’s on a time crunch, and it probably is, but there’s just so much going on.
All in all, not a bad start to the show so far. It’s quick, it’s funny, and most importantly, it’s free to watch up here in Canada. Put all those together, it’s worth a watch through 3 episodes.
