I’ve always enjoyed any forms of dystopic media and Greenland is no different. As evident by my score, Greenland had all the aspects of a dystopia that I could ever want. Likeable characters? Check. Strong plot? Check. Amazing end-of-the-world disaster? Check. Before I get into specifics, the only area that wasn’t as enjoyable was that some scenes seemed to be dragged out for a long time.
Now, into specifics. I really enjoyed this movie’s interpretation of a worldly disaster. I enjoyed that the movie was about a comet striking the Earth and not some zombie-like plague or disease that other medias tend to overuse. Using a comet that can’t be stopped by human hands really puts everything into perspective and the hopelessness of the situation. Everything is bleak and it contrasts so well with the orange hue in the skies during day scenes. I also really enjoyed the characters and I enjoyed watching them grow throughout the movie. I also enjoyed that most characters didn’t seem to have an ounce of plot armour besides the main characters. It made the whole experience a lot more real.
The only real downsides to the movie are some of the longer and drawn-out scenes and the way everything seemed too convenient for the protagonists. The drawn-out scenes moved too slowly relative to the plot and the plot armour that the protagonists have remove you from the immediate atmosphere, as everything seems a tad bit too convenient.
Overall, Greenland is an amazing watch. Like The Midnight Sky, life is bleak in this universe and the comet touching down conveys real terror as none can stop it in its track. I would definitely recommend watching this movie.

After seeing the trailer for this film I thought that this looked like it could be a fun disaster movie and after watching it I am happy to report that the film delivers and is even better than I expected. I do enjoy a good disaster movie and this one has an interesting premise that I thought was different enough to stand out from other classic disaster films. For one thing the government was actually prepared for the world-ending event in this movie and we get to see how their plan works and how it causes even more chaos. There was some mystery and intrigue at the beginning of this movie about how people got selected by the government to be taken to safety. The acting in this movie was really solid especially from Gerard Butler who plays John and Morena Baccarin who plays Allison as they really made me feel worried for them and their son. I personally thought that the characters weren’t written too complex which makes sense considering that is not the main selling point of the film, but I felt that the actors gave such good performances that they really made the movie all the better. This movie, like others before it shows how an end of the world event would cause such chaos and I really like how they portray the desperation of everyone as it felt real and like that would be a real reaction to a situation like this. There are some really tense action scenes of our protagonists trying to escape North America to the safety of Greenland and the action felt very intense and kept me on the edge of my seat.
All in all, this is a really fun disaster movie with some good characters and some cool action that I would highly recommend to anyone in the mood for this type of film and looking for something new on Amazon Prime Video!

Greenland is one of the best disaster movies I have seen in quite some time. The most remarkable part of this movie has to be the amount of stuff that is jammed into the 2-hour movie. The plot is super deep, and the characters are very well developed. Because we have 2 hours and the plot is so full, we get a lot of attention-grabbing moments and a lot of room for our characters to grow.
The plot is really well written, and really filled. After about an hour and 15, it felt like the movie had to be coming to an end, so much had already happened, but no, we got even more. The events are captivating, and the emotional swings make this an entertaining watch. I also enjoyed that the plot wasn’t overly predictable. The twists and turns made things much more captivating, and it kept the movie from becoming boring. I find that disaster movies like Greenland tend to follow a relatively similar plotline, but this movie managed to find its own path. I loved that because it kept me intrigued with what was coming next.
The characters aren’t quite as unique as the plot, and the development was a little bit predictable. The character arcs of the main protagonists were quite predictable, but it was the side characters that were surprising. We see quite a few secondary characters that don’t get a lot of screen time, but they all add some form of value to the movie. There is very little wasted time or writing in this movie, and the high tempo doesn’t fade.
Greenland is a fantastic movie and an emotional ride. The ups and downs will keep you on your toes, and the jam-packed plot is guaranteed to keep you engaged. Go check this one out on Prime Video!
