Non-Spoiler:
The Weekend Away is a crime/mystery movie that takes place in Croatia. Now, in general, I just thought the movie was alright. I’ll get into more specific details in the spoilers section, but the end wasn’t as good as some of the other movies we’ve watched from the same genre. With that out of the way, let’s get into some of the aspects of this movie that made it so mediocre.
First things first, the characters were alright. Being a mystery, I was constantly trying to find out who did the crime, and in the end, I was kind of close. All the characters were alright though. They were all unique, however, some of their actions felt over exaggerated. Like Sebastian for example. He felt overly suspicious for no reason. Besides him, no other character really stuck out to me.
Plot wise, it was alright as well. Being a mystery, I tried looking for small clues throughout the movie, but it was difficult. I’ll explain more later, but the ending felt a bit rushed, and nothing really added up. Other than that, it was pretty mediocre.
Overall, if you’re into this genre, then go ahead. Otherwise, you aren’t missing much.
Spoiler:
Here in the spoilers, we’ll discuss the ending, because that’s the big thing that happens for mysteries. Now, to me, the reveals felt weak. At first, the reveal of Pavic being the killer was an alright reveal. It made sense within the story, but him falling to his death felt forced. That part didn’t make sense, unless they were trying to show there was another killer. Then, when they revealed Rob, that also didn’t feel satisfying. Honestly, the whole ending sequence wasn’t that satisfying. For such a big mystery, the conclusion was quite anticlimactic.
