Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse

“He’s just a bit of a smart-ass. No, that’s not right, I’m the smart-ass. Yeah he’s, uh, he’s more of a badass”
Summary
Happy Sunday everyone! For all the university students out there, congratulations on getting through a year of school! You know what’s the best way to celebrate? A spy movie obviously. Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse is the perfect way to pass the day. And when you finish that nearly released movie, you can check out our thoughts on the website!
Characters
John Kelly is a military operative who has gone on many missions. He is the “badass” of his squad and proves to be quite good at getting the job done. After the murder of his wife and unborn daughter he becomes quite vengeful and takes his intensity and focus to a whole new level.

Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse was a lot better than what I expected. The first half of the movie does lead you to believe that there isn’t much to this movie. It’s just the journey of man who lost everything and his quest for vengeance. Now, don’t get me wrong, that is what the story is about. But after passing some key scenes, there is foundation for more in the future.
A quick negative to get it out of the way: this movie isn’t filled with the deepest of meanings or messages. So, if you’re looking for a heartfelt movie about love and family, this isn’t it. Yes, this movie will feature some deep moments, but that isn’t the focus. It’s darker and realistic. It’s a movie with fighting involved and in real life, there isn’t some greater meaning or deeper message involved.
Now, onto the better aspects. If you’re expecting and action movie with realistic gunfights, then this is the movie for me. The greatest thing about this movie is definitely the gunfights. Tense, dark, suspenseful, this movie delivers on all these points. Another aspect that got better as the time progressed was the story. Although it starts off as a simple revenge plot, the foundation is lain for other future projects and other angles. It leaves the door open for new movies or stories in the future. Finally, the characters were pretty good as well. John is a great protagonist to follow, and he was one that I didn’t get too annoyed with while watching.
Overall, this was a solid movie. If you’re looking for action and espionage, then this is the movie for you, but don’t go expecting too much below the surface. This movie also leaves the door open for future projects, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse is an entertaining, action-filled movie. The characters are well written, and the plot is good. The amount of gunfights is incredible, but the quality of said fights caught my eye. We see a lot of “Stormtrooper aim” in many action/military movies, but Without Remorse ends up being an exception to the rule. The amount of characters that get shot is a lot higher than I expected, but it keeps the tempo and emotions of the movie high.
John Kelly is a great character, a character you can get behind, but his motivation and character arc are pretty stiff. He knows who he is, and his devotion to the cause remains intact. The character interactions feel natural and with a movie of high emotion, I thought the actors did a nice job of portraying different emotional responses. Micheal B. Jordan is awesome once again, but there are a few parts where he holds the movie together.
The storyline behind this movie is pretty darn simple, and for the most part easy to follow. It covers a lot of the course of a 2-hour movie, and that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are just a few moments in the middle where the tempo drops off just a bit, and some viewers might find it boring. I thought these moments provided a minute to breathe and let the emotions fall, but just something to be aware of if you are all about high tempo for 2 straight hours. I thought the flow was really good, and the plot makes sense. It isn’t just a slaughter fest for 2 straight hours. We see proper story development, and our characters find and reveal their motivations for their actions.
This high-tempo film was exactly what I expected after watching the trailer, and it was a thrill. The action is still the highlight, but I loved seeing a logical story behind a great action movie. Amazon Prime, although they don’t produce as much as Netflix, has given us once again a pretty solid movie. Click that button above to check out Prime Video!

When I started this film, I thought I would be getting a simple revenge plot. Instead, I actually got an espionage story with many secrets that also happens to have elements of a revenge plot. Michael B. Jordan as John Kelly delivers a great performance where you can really feel the emotion and pain behind his eyes in most scenes and you really buy into his motivation. He also sells the action scenes really well with all his stunts and action scenes looking very realistic. That would be another word I would use to describe this film, it feels realistic. All the motivations, reveals, and especially the action all feel like they represent the real world with a very low-tech military-type action movie.
This movie has its moments where it slows down and takes some time with John Kelly which is really important as we get to see his grief and loss as he spirals down a darker path. He constantly seems like he’s about to have a mental breakdown but can always focus on the mission which makes him an entertaining protagonist. When the action starts it is very high tempo and will keep you on the edge of your seat as you wait to see the cool spectacle and what happens to the characters. The other component I really like is the mystery as to why John’s family was killed and who was behind it. My only real complaint is that other than John most of the other characters are forgettable and just serve as either allies or obstacles towards his goal.
All in all, this is a solid espionage action movie that if you’re looking for something new on Prime Video to check out I would definitely recommend.
