Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was a great movie.

What Happens in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl?

Elizabeth Swan is the daughter of a governor on the island of Port Royal. While in attendance for a ceremony, she faints and falls into the ocean where she is saved by Jack Sparrow, a pirate trying to commandeer a ship. When Elizabeth fell into the water, she was wearing a pirate medallion that, little did she know, sent a signal to a ship called the Black Pearl.

After saving Elizabeth, Jack Sparrow tries to escape and after nearly evading the royal navy, is captured. That night the Black Pearl arrives attacking the town and capturing Elizabeth. This convinces a man named Will Turner, who was saved by Elizabeth as a child and is now in love with her, to free Jack and use his help to save Elizabeth from the pirates.

Who Are The Characters in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl?

Captain Jack Sparrow is arguably the world’s most renowned pirate, with a knack for dramatics. Jack acts like he is a heartless pirate without morals or a care in the world. This simply isn’t true. Jack is more honest than he would like to admit and more inclined to help people than he lets on. He may be a pirate, but he is still a good man.

Will is a very interesting character. A blacksmith who lost his father at a young age has a hatred for anything pirate-related. He is a strong-willed character who is willing to do anything for those he loves. His hatred for pirates ends up being quite ironic.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Review

Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl just so happens to be a film from one of my favourite film franchises and it happens to be one of my top 20 favourite films of all time. It’s one of those movies that I grew up with, that I constantly think about, constantly quote and re-watch quite often.

The series as a whole, but particularly this first film, is such a fun action-adventure film that knows how to mix comedy and action perfectly. The first thing I would like to compliment is the story. They could have made this a basic pirates search for a treasure-type movie but they add so many interesting plot developments, twists, characters, and concepts that really make this stand out among pirate movies.

The writing in this movie is well done with lots of clever ideas and witty dialogue with lots of comedy that all comes off naturally. This also happens to be based on one of the original Disneyland rides and so there are quite a few clever references to the ride scattered throughout the film. As someone who’s ridden the ride in both Disneyland and Disneyworld, I find that to be cool.

The characters are all very memorable in this movie with Will (played by Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth ( played by Keira Knightly) both being great protagonists who have interesting character arcs. Barbossa (played by Geoffrey Rush) is a fantastic villain who gets to really be a creepy pirate.

While all those characters are great, Jack Sparrow ( played by Johnny Depp) easily stole the show through his mannerisms and general presence. Jack Sparrow is one of my favourite movie characters, and Johnny Depp deserves all the credit for coming up with how to play this character from his unbalanced walking, his constant use of the term savvy, his love for rum, and the way he talks.

It all just works perfectly and he is the character that all the famous quotes come from. The action in this movie is also top-notch with the ship battles being way more fun and engaging than you might expect and the sword fighting being very creative and awesome to watch.

All in all, this is one of my favourites so I will definitely recommend it to anyone young or old. If you haven’t watched it in a while check it out again, you’re sure to have a good time. Hop on Disney+ and see for yourself.
