Clouds

9.5
Clouds is a wonderful true story, one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while.
What Happens In Clouds?
Based on a true story, Clouds follows the life of a high school senior named Zach Sobiech and his journey with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer. Diagnosed at 14, and after over 20 rounds of chemotherapy, Zach and his family believe that he has beaten the cancer. However, that was not what fate had in store for him.
The movie opens with Zach arriving at his school talent show. He walks in on his crutches and meets his friend, Sammy, in the backstage area to prepare for his performance. As he walks over, he sees Amy, a dancer and the girl he has feelings for. After giving a dorky thumbs up to her, Zach performs in front of the school.
The next day, he scores a picnic date with Amy and he’s elated. That morning, as he prepares for his date, Zach begins having a coughing fit which leads to a visit to the hospital. Zach discovers that he has a collapsed lung and that the cancer has spread to his lungs. He doesn’t know how long he has to live. The rest of the movie follows his journey through his new life.
Who Are The Characters in Clouds?
Zach is the focus of the film. He is a very charismatic, positive person, who maintains a positive attitude throughout his struggles. He is also an incredible musician.
Sammy is Zach’s childhood best friend, and they have a strong bond involving music. She has been with Zach through all of his treatments, and she is like a sister to Zach. Sammy is also a very strong character, providing a lot of support and inspiration for Zach.
Amy is Zach’s girlfriend. They bond really quickly as the movie progresses, and they become a large part of each other’s lives. She is also a fantastic dancer. Amy is a huge part of this movie, as she has a huge influence on the decisions Zach makes and the path he goes down.
Clouds Review
Clouds is a heartwarming yet tragic film about a young man who, after finally thinking he had beat cancer, learns that he is terminal and what he does with his time left. It is also based on a true story which adds another layer to the story as you realize all these events happened, which makes it all the sadder and all the more heartwarming.
The story follows Zach Sobiech, who is charismatic, charming, and kind which makes it all the more sad to watch him suffer, especially at the beginning where we see he thinks he had beaten the cancer but instead discovers he is terminal.
Fin Argus, who plays Zach, does a great job conveying the emotions that someone would feel in this situation. We see Zach be angry and push people away, we see the sadness he feels knowing he won’t have a future, and we see what he decides to do with his remaining time.
Zach’s best friend Sammy ( as played by Sabrina Carpenter) is another standout as we see her feelings for Zach and how she tries to be supportive but also we see the toll it takes on her to lose her best friend. Zach’s girlfriend Amy (as played by Madison Iseman) is great as we see how she does not care that he is terminal, she still loves him and she is his light in the darkness. That is part of what keeps him fighting.
The two are a great couple together that are cute and that you hope work out. The rest of the cast is also brilliant as we see how Zach’s struggles affect his loved ones, like his distraught parents who have to deal with losing their son which no parent wants to have to go through.
We see siblings who have to watch their older or younger brother slowly become weaker, and there is also a really great teacher who stands by Zach the whole way through.
This movie brings out all the emotions as it made me tear up multiple times during some well-acted, well-shot, and beautiful scenes that show you why you should fight to live. This movie has a lot of great quotes throughout with some great life advice that could resonate with anyone.
The movie isn’t all sad though, it can in fact be quite funny with Zach himself being charismatic and witty as he tries to keep his situation light for others as well as for himself. It is also quite heartwarming, as I mentioned because it really makes you care for all these people as you want them to make it out on the other side okay. You will feel for Zach as you just want to see him have the future that he will miss.
All in all, this is a fantastic film that you should definitely go watch. It will make you feel many emotions along the way but you will be so sucked into the story that it should do that. With a fantastic cast and an inspirational true story, it is for sure a movie I highly recommend. If you are looking for another heartwarming true story, go check out Penguin Bloom on Netflix!
