Platonic Episode 4 Review

Platonic Episode 4: Divorce Party – 9.1/10
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne continue to put on quite a show, but episode 4 was somewhat of a nothing ball, plot wise. Following Sylvia’s major blowup at Charlie’s work conference, Charlie tracks down a job opportunity at a different law firm for Sylvia. This seems to be a major plot point, but it means nearly nothing in this week’s episode.
The real plot of the episode is that Sylvia goes to a divorce party, which is as odd as it sounds, and then plans Will’s divorce party. As always, when Sylvia and Will are on screen together, the show become 10 times better. The uncomfortable moments are hilarious, and our characters continue to flesh out. Andy, Reggie, and Omar play decent roles in this episode, and I really enjoy them as supporting characters. They’re funny, weird, and unique. They all feel like real people, and they bring a different vibe to the show.
We meet Peyton at the start of the episode, played by Emily Kimball. Will goes on a date with her, and upon running to her apartment, where her roommate also lives, awkwardness ensues. While she didn’t have much screen time in this episode, we may see more of her in future episodes.

The plot is very contained in episode 4, and while that isn’t always a bad thing, it was kind of unfortunate to see. There is almost nothing this week that moves the overarching story ahead. We get a good chunk of character development occurring, and Will and Sylvia bond some more, but it really feels like a filler episode. The plot is building, but we don’t do much to carry that forward. We do see some more awkward moments between Sylvia and Charlie, mostly involving Will, and I think that relationship is going to be in trouble for a least a couple of episodes later in the season.
Overall, a pretty good episode. The pacing is good, and it was fun to watch. I was hoping for a little bit more connection to the overall plot of the show, but I did enjoy the character development and where that took us.
