The Slumber Party Summary and Ending Explained

The following article will summarize the events of the Disney+ movie, The Slumber Party. This summary will be spoiling the events of the movie, but honestly, you aren’t missing much. If you are looking for the review instead, we got that covered as well. Without further ado, this is The Slumber Party.
The movie begins with our lead characters flying off of a hedgehog float. While in the air, the lead character, Megan, does the typical pause in midair and breaks the fourth wall. After her quick interjection, a flashback to the events that led up to this moment begins.
Flashback a day earlier, Megan is preparing to go to Anna Maria’s house for Anna Maria’s birthday. On the way out of her house, she bids farewell to her two fathers, as Megan’s friend Paige waits at the door. With Megan acquired, Paige’s older brother Mike takes them to Anna Maria’s. Just as she’s exiting the door, Megan is awestruck by the presence of Jake, an older boy she likes. This brief lapse in judgment leads to her skirt getting caught in the door and ripped off. Not the greatest start to a day for sure.
While this was happening, there was tension in the Anna Maria household. Now that her father is getting remarried, and ironically on the same day as her birthday, Anna Maria is visibly upset. She is even more upset once she is forced to invite her stepsister Veronica to the party as well. Before things can get too heated, Megan and Paige arrive, which breaks the tension.
Once the girls arrive, the three go to the basement to start some slumber party activities. There, Megan discovers that her friends do certain activities without her. With that in mind, Megan then resolves to be more open to new experiences. Before they can start anything, Veronica arrives, making a grand entrance by falling down the stairs.

Anna Maria is visibly upset, which prompts Paige and Megan to take Anna Maria off to the side. They have a quick heart-to-heart, and then the three reemerge to talk with Veronica. As they talk to Veronica, Anna Maria’s little sister, Penny, jumpscares all the girls wanting to be a part of the party. Anna Maria instantly refuses, and Penny is sent away.
Later that night, a hypnotist by the name of The Magnificent Mesmer arrives. Now, just like The Hangover, but instead of drinking and partying, the four girls are hypnotized.
All of a sudden, Megan wakes up to a trashed house, where clearly a lot had happened the night before. When the girls wake up, they notice that Anna Maria is missing. The remaining three girls panic and start looking for Anna Maria. While looking around the house, they find a bunch of baby chicks in the bathtub. Thinking this is a clue, the girls visit the high school to return the chicks and find Anna Maria.
When they find the door locked, Paige calls for her brother Mike to help them break into the school. After Mike successfully gets them into the school, the girls begin searching for Anna Maria. All they find is one shoe. They then return the chicks, while trying to escape the principal.
Veronica also develops a crush on Mike, but we don’t talk about that. It’s a weird scene.
After their harrowing escape the girls visit Hillside, a rival high school. There they meet the band and negotiate a trade: their hedgehog float for something precious to the girls. Reaching another dead end, the girls leave the school dejected.
The next clue they receive is from a phone call. Earlier, Veronica had called the company that they hired Mesmer from. They were then informed that Mesmer was working at another festival. With a goal in sight, the girls head to the fair.
When entering the fair, they somehow enter an onion-eating competition. After competing, Veronica ends up winning the competition. However, since the girls entered the competition posing as someone else, they were chased off the stage.

Their next destination takes them to Jake’s house. There, they meet Jake and find out that the girls were with him last night. Turns out, that was where Hedgie, the float, was located. Now that the float was located, the group used Hedgie to reach the negotiation spot.
As the float loses control down a hill, we reach the point where the flashback begins. The two groups exchange the precious items, which turns out to be Megan’s old phone, not Anna Maria. With the trade complete, the girls are now back to square one.
The group goes back to Anna Maria’s house to regroup and shower. After a heart-to-heart with Jake, the girls decide their next point of attack is Penny. After threatening the lives of her dolls, Penny eventually cracks. She gives a note that says that Anna Maria went on the hike by herself. The girls eventually find her and they all reunite. Anna Maria then reveals that she has let go of her resentment and is ready to go to her father’s wedding.
There, after people make up with each other, the girls eventually come across Mesmer, who was working during the wedding. After Mesmer undoes the hypnosis, everything comes rushing back, which is shown during the end credits. With that, the movie ends.
If the summary didn’t make it clear, the plot moves exactly like The Hangover, almost beat for beat. If you are interested in learning more about The Slumber Party, I wrote a review a couple of weeks ago. But if you want a tl;dr of the review, just watch The Hangover instead.
