Where to Watch Secret Invasion?
Of all the Marvel TV shows, I would like to think this first episode of Secret Invasion is near the top of entertainment. Besides featuring familiar faces, the actual content of the episode was darker and grittier than the usual Marvel feel. With a darker tone, it made the whole experience of watching this first episode worth it. If you’ve watched Captain Marvel, or know who the Skrulls are, this is a show you should tune in for.
Secret Invasion Episode 1 Review
Starting this show, I wasn’t really sure where to put my expectations. On one hand, Nick Fury has always been a fun character to watch, but on the other hand, sometimes Marvel shows can be a hit or miss. It can be as fun and entertaining as Loki, or it could’ve been slow like Ms. Marvel. I’m happy to report that the first episode of Secret Invasion was 100% a hit. Not only was the pacing solid, but the plot and characters in this episode melded together perfectly. This episode does end on a cliffhanger, so when I cover the plot of the episode, I will warn you about spoilers. With that in mind, let’s get started.
The first area I want to cover has to be the characters. For one, it was great seeing a bunch of familiar faces. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen Maria Hill in action, and this episode does give her the opportunity to shine. Watching her in some of the fight and chase scenes was great to watch. Alongside that note, Nick Fury coming back was a pleasure to watch as well. I never thought about the effects of the Blip, and how that could change some people. However, seeing how far Nick has changed compared to his past appearances was quite eye opening.

Based on the timeline in the MCU, Nick is actually quite old. So, when seeing him in action a bit passed his prime, it was something I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. Besides Nick, the other prominent characters around are the shape-shifting Skrulls. Although I don’t explicitly remember Talos in previous entries in the series, his moments with other characters were great. We never got to see much of the Skrulls beforehand, so watching him, not only in combat, but interacting with others of his species was a nice change of pace.
On the antagonist side, Gravik was a surprisingly brutal character. He has firm beliefs in his plans, and shows no mercy to those around him. The addition of his character does add more darkness to the MCU, which is always welcome. Besides Gravik, my thoughts on G’iah are a bit mixed. Currently, I don’t know what her true motives are, so it’s hard to judge how I should feel.
Going into the plot slightly, with some minor spoilers, the fact that the bombing was successful, I can’t tell if that was because G’iah betrayed Talos, or if she was bamboozled and read by Gravik. Either way, I guess we’ll find out more next week. Overall, solid characters that had chemistry together.
So, since I mentioned plot, let’s talk about that next. This right here is your spoiler warning. I will be covering the cliffhanger at the end of the episode, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, come back to this section later.

Still here? Let’s talk plot then.
So, to start, the plot of the first episode was solid and entertaining to follow. Here, Talos discovers a plot devised by the Skrulls to take over the Earth by pitting the major powers against each other. Watching the situation develop was quite entertaining. Even though the episode was close to an hour long, I have to say that it kept my interest the whole time. At first, I was quite skeptical since Marvel TV shows can be a hit of miss.
So, the fact it kept me entertained the whole hour was great. Alongside, good flow, the actual fight and chase scenes in the story were solid. This series does feature a few magical elements, but the majority of it is rooted in reality. As such, the brutal hand ot hand combat and shoot out scenes were solid.
Now, the biggest part of the episode has to be that cliffhanger of an ending. One, I didn’t really know how they were planning on ending the episode. The fact that Nick and his group were unsuccessful in stopping Gravik was an interesting take. The more I think about it thought, this has to be the only way the story could progress. Now, the biggest thing that happens in this episode is the death of Maria Hill at the end.
Throughout the episode, Maria does say a few concerning things that did raise a few death flags. But I didn’t think that those flags were for today’s episode. The fact that she was killed at the end really shocked me. It’s been a while since that’s happened, but my jaw did drop. So, good on the show for surprising me like that. Also, during that death scene, there was a surprising amount of blood present. That was also quite a welcome addition, though I’m sad that Maria was killed off quite early in the season.
On that note, I have to say that the first episode of Secret Invasion was solid. It grabbed my attention right away and it didn’t let go. The characters and their chemistry together was solid, and the plot was intriguing enough to keep me invested the whole hour. If you’ve watched Captain Marvel, and are interested in seeing what’s coming up next, definitely check out the show. You won’t be disappointed.
