What’s Next for The Spider-Verse?
Have you just watched Across the Spider-Verse? Are you interested in knowing what’s coming next? Although I can’t say exactly what’s happening, let’s speculate, shall we?
When it comes to speculations about the second part of this movie, I think we should start with what we know. If you haven’t watched the movie, I’d highly suggest skipping this article for now and coming back to it later. This is your spoiler warning, since I will be going over the ending of the movie.
So, at the end of the movie, we saw The Prowler from universe 42, whose identity is Miles Morales. First thing’s first, there’s obviously going to be a fight between Spider-man Miles Morales and Prowler Miles Morales. There is no doubt in my mind about that. Before they fight though, our Miles has to escape somehow. I want to think the Prowler lets him go so the two can fight. Now, whether Prowler Miles fight dirty or not, I guess we’ll find out.
Halfway through this fight, I predict that Gwen and Miles’ old friends will show up. Since our Miles can’t survive in this current world, since he isn’t from it originally, I’m thinking that the fight will go bad for Miles due to this fact. Gwen and the others will then save Miles and give Miles some kind of device to prevent the glitching. After that is accomplished, I think the whole group will leave that world. Before the portal can close, I think The Prowler will follow the group to wherever the main group escapes to.
After this escape, I believe that the gang is going back to Miles’ world to prep for their fight against The Spot. During this preparation phase, The Prowler is going to attack again. This fight will go either one of two ways. Either, The Prowler will be defeated by the group and sent back to his world, or he’s going to join in on the fight against The Spot. Either way, I feel like The Prowler is going to play a pivotal role in developing Miles as a character.
By that same note, there is a chance that The Prowler might be killed in the fight, which would also spurn Miles’ development. However, the only way this Prowler dies is if he joins Miles’ group’s fight against The Spot. A prerequisite of The Prowler joining Miles has to be The Prowler meeting Jefferson, Miles’ father. In this case, this meeting could inspire The Prowler to fight against the evil trying to take Jefferson away. By that same token, Jefferson might be the reason The Prowler continues to oppose Miles.
In the end, I believe that Jefferson is going to the deciding factor between The Prowler helping or harming the group. If The Prowler can be inspired to protect that which he lost, The Prowler will help Miles fight The Spot. However, if this meeting causes The Prowler to be filled with rage and regret, I don’t see any other possibility than a clash between both Miles. In the end, this encounter is going to strengthen Miles and bring him to the next level of his development.
When it comes to Spiderman 2099, I feel like he will join the fight against The Spot. Currently, he’s on the search for Miles, but I think one key event is going to change things. Since Miles changed the canon for Spiderman India’s story, I feel like that decision to going to do something good. Eventually, Spiderman 2099 is going to fight Miles and his group too. This is happening without a doubt. During this fight, Spiderman 2099 is going to be driven to eliminate Miles due to his tampering with the multiverse. Eventually, Miguel is going to catch wind that Spiderman India’s world is thriving.
Even after canon had been destroyed, there is a way for that universe to continue existing. This miraculous event will then prove that Miguel was wrong. That there is still hope for universes that have their canon altered. Since this event proved beneficial, Miguel is going to have a change of heart. He’s going to stop fighting Miles and help protect the people that Miles cares about.
The last area of predictions I have will be about the ending of the movie. Now, it wouldn’t be out of the question if any of the main group dies during the fight. I think Across the Spider-Verse proved that they aren’t afraid of showing the darker aspects of being a hero. They aren’t scared of death. There are three people who I think might kick the bucket. First and foremost is going to be Peter B. Parker. To complete character arc, there is a chance that he’ll sacrifice himself for either his daughter or Miles. He will be fully redeemed as a hero, though this will bring great loss to the group.
The next character that might die would be Gwen. Same idea as Peter B., I feel like her death will be more the sacrificial method. When she leaps in to save Miles, Miles will finally realize that everything Gwen has been trying to do was to protect him. Miles is going to lose his friend, but it will give him the motivation to beat The Spot.
Finally, the last character who I think might die is Miles himself. In some kind of twist of fate, Miles is going to sacrifice himself in order to bring balance back to the multiverse. I have a feeling that Miles is going to fall into the in between dimension that The Spot creates. There, he’s going to be spend eternity keeping the Spot at bay inside The Spot’s own spots.
So, to recap all things I’m predicting:
Miles and Prowler are going to fight. Miles will probably lose, due to his body glitching in the wrong universe. Right before the end, Gwen and the others will save him and bring him back to his own world. With the portal open, The Prowler will follow the group. From there, The Prowler will meet Jefferson, which will either cause the Prowler a change of heart, or he’s going to be more resolved to defeat Miles.
While this is going on, Miguel is going to realize the error in his ways and turn to help Miles defeat The Spot. At the end of the fight, someone from the main trio is going to die, and their sacrifice is going to lead the others to victory.
Thank you for reading my predictions for Beyond the Spider-Verse. Hopefully some of these predictions are true March 2024.
