Christmas Crossfire

“You know that, usually loser pays all. But not this time. No. This time, the loser wins.”
-Herrmann
Summary:
Christmas Crossfire opens with a very explicit scene for audiences of 18+. Here, Edda and Sam meet each other at a bar. After spending a night together, Edda convinces Sam to come back to her village after 5 years of leaving to visit Edda’s father for his birthday. On their way up to the village, they take a break for some kisses and weed. Unfortunately, the make out session is stopped from cries of help from the woods. Sam goes to check out the noise and finds a group of men surrounding one man bound and gagged with a gun pointed to his head. Sam stops the execution and escapes with the man. After taking some time, Edda also leaves in a different direction. From there, the storylines of the protagonists split and merge throughout the film.
Characters:
Edda is one of the main characters in this movie. She is a young woman that quickly falls for Sam, a junior professor. She is adventurous and also open to having fun.
Sam is the other main character, and he differs from Edda quite a bit. He is a junior professor and has a very strong moral compass. He is also more reserved than Edda, but he quickly loses that trait as he spends time with Edda.

This is not a good movie. It has bits and pieces that are interesting or captivating. I wouldn’t even call this movie entertaining. Also, don’t trick yourself into thinking that this is a christmas movie. It’s not. The dialogue is sloppy, and some conversations or even entire scenes feel pointless. Now could the flow of the dialogue be lost in the dub? Maybe. Either the dub or the original isn’t written very well, and the movie pays for it. The voice acting is decent, the actual acting is only mediocre at best. My biggest issue with this movie is the characters. We see very little development, changes, or even a solid piece of background information on most characters. It is a little bit ridiculous how much this story jumps around, from scene to scene. The story really struggles to stay on track, and the path it takes is weird.
I will give this movie credit for the few scenes that did make sense or were slightly captivating, but every time I thought this movie was going to find its roots and get back on track, it falls further off the deep end. There are a few scenes that are decent, well-written moments, but sadly they are in the minority of this movie. It is really hard to get past the amount of bouncing around this movie does, and I can’t see myself touching it again.
This one is on Netflix if you are looking for something to watch, but even if you are looking for a foreign movie, I promise you can find better options, including but not limited to, Break.

For long time fans of the website, they would recognize the movie The Devil All the Time. This movie elicited a lot of the same emotions: confusion and a whole lot of what the heck. I guess the main thing about this movie that puzzled me was just the whole movie itself. I understood the themes and the ideas, but I don’t understand how or what the movie did to achieve those themes. Like, there is a lot about actions and consequences, and sure, the movie touches on that theme, but the method of achieving it made no sense. Throughout the movie, there are many character deaths, and most of deaths were pointless and contributed nothing to the plot. I guess it did contribute to the other message of how all these events did not have to happen, but once again, the execution just wasn’t there. As a quick side note, this movie is originally German, so some of the dialogue could be lost in translation.
Overall, the movie is just meh. There was some good theme exploration, but the execution was horrible. If you’re in the mood for a meh movie, then by all means, enjoy.

I don’t know what this movie is? To start we have another dub movie which is not always a knock against the film but in this case the match of the dub and subtitles was awful. For people who have been reading our reviews for a while this movie is comparable to The Devil All the Time though if you read my review for that I really didn’t like it but this movie is worse. I felt that this film was not well made, not well executed, or enjoyable really at all. At least the movie was not overly violent but that might have made it more memorable. This movie’s story does not feel well paced or structured and it just feels like a random series of events. The characters were barely developed and kind of surface level and they did not make me care for their struggle or even if the really survived the film’s events. This movie lost my attention as well during the middle for some time which is hard to do as I give my full attention to every movie I watch and actively want to enjoy most movies. If I had something good to say about the movie it would be that the movie had a decent bad guy who had some fun henchmen that were the best part of the movie to me. The Christmas element of this movie was not really focused on until the end of the movie so I would not classify this movie as a Christmas movie so don’t go in thinking that there will be many Christmas references. This movie was close to the worst movie I have seen and one of few movies that out of ten I would give the film something below 5.
All in all, I do not recommend this movie to anyone but maybe you want to check it out to see if it is actually as bad as I say. If you check it out and enjoy it I am glad that you could find something in this film to like.
